NESSR is run entirely by volunteers, we have no paid staff and rely entirely on fundraising and donations. Amongst the many ways to help are home checking, transport runs, manning a stall at a local event, fostering, assessing, supporting families through those all important first few days with their new family member, sending a bag of dog food, a treat, a toy or a lead or, of course, the all important donation of funds to help NESSR continue its work!

 

Fostering for NESSR

 

Fostering a dog until it finds its forever home is a rewarding experience that we would recommend to anyone who has the time, effort and circumstances to do so. There will always be ups and downs with fostering as many of the dogs that come in have their own “baggage” and funny habits that they have learned during their previous life. You have the chance to help a dog in need, to help look after it when no one else can until they find their new forever home. When you pass over the dog to its new owners you'll feel proud that you were able to help but also sad to see a temporary member of your family leave

Where do Foster Carers need to live?

NESSR needs foster carers in the North East, North West, Yorkshire and Scotland as that is where the vast majority of our dogs come from. Ideally we prefer dogs not to have to travel too far to their foster homes. Foster carers also need to live close to one our vets.

Fundraising

 

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our fundraising events, they're great fun and you are helping the dogs at the same time.  We hold annual events at Druridge Bay, but also fundraise at smaller dog shows, pet shops, country fairs, and agricultural shows.  If you would like to help at one of these events please let us know, or why not hold your own event and donate the money? Coffee mornings, car boot sales, cash for clothes, cds or books, all can raise much needed funds.
